Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Kristy Gough and Matt Peterson. It has been a very difficult weekend for everyone, and as we move forward together in the wake of tragedy and difficult times, let us not forget the strength we find in one another and the powerful connections of friendship we share, either through shared experiences or a common love for sport. We have a lot for which to be thankful. The support within our community is overwhelming, and I hope that everyone struggling with recent events finds strength and solace in this extraordinary network of people.
Michael Hernandez is compiling video messages of support for Christopher Knapp (survivor of last Sunday’s tragedy) and all those who assisted in that accident. You can find Michael at the Visalia/Exeter races this weekend, or forward him your own audio/video file (under 9 megs; see norcalcyclingnews.com).
“I’ll edit all messages recorded this weekend (and any sent to me) and post it for Christopher and his family/friends to view. I’ll also send him hard copies of the file on CD. I’ll be at this weekend’s race dinner [in Visalia/Exeter] on Friday for sure (and likely the tt ride that afternoon), but will also be at all events all weekend long. I’d really appreciate it if ya’ll could spread the word to any who might be interested.”
My family and I also offer our gratitude for the outpouring of support and concern in helping find my sister Jenna. We were deeply moved by how quickly such an enormous group of caring people mobilized for the cause. Thank you.
“Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow.”
