I love living in the city. Our apartment is in Zentrum (city center), less than a block from the Hauptplatz (main square) and a short walk to Jakonminiplatz, the main bus and rail hub in town. Everything we need is within an easy cobblestone stroll. When we first arrived here, I took photos of what one could call the architectural and landscape equivalents of charismatic megafauna — the quaint old buildings, wine-country landscapes and dramatic alpine panoramas, all of which contribute to the overwhelming beauty of Graz and the Styrian countryside. Yet, the subtler nooks and crannies and small idiosyncrasies of city life offer a charm all their own.
